We will answer these questions if you continue reading… but first of all we want to tell you a little about the history of the place where it is held and why it is called Grazzano Visconti.<\/p>\n
Grazzano Visconti, a hamlet of Vigolzone (PC), in 1394 was a normal village, without a castle. In 1395 Gian Galeazzo Visconti gave permission to his sister Beatrice Visconti married to Giovanni Anguissola to build one. Since then, Grazzano has had a real castle that behaves like one.<\/p>\n
\nAround and within its walls<\/strong> there are bloody clashes, hanging of prisoners and conspirators, glorious episodes (grazzano.it) and it also houses a ghost that is still present today.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Will maintenance be done at the Grazzano Visconti castle?<\/h3>\n
During the 1600s many maintenance works were carried out including the replacement of the wooden drawbridge with a stone “square” structure – (see image).<\/p>\n

However, the complete renovation took place at the end of the 19th century by the hand of Giuseppe Visconti di Modrone, an enlightened owner, who restored it to its beauty and consigned it to history as we see it today.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The village was always born by the will and by the hand of Giuseppe Visconti di Modrone flanked by the Arch. Campanini on a horseshoe design around the castle. The Duke’s desire was to translate into reality the concepts of Arts & Crafts in force at the time and deriving from England and its peers throughout Europe: to celebrate the arts and crafts by allowing them to develop freely in his country.<\/p>\n

\u201c[\u2026] For this reason, in addition to the houses, in the village of Grazzano Visconti there are many buildings dedicated to teaching the inhabitants all the tools useful for living a peaceful and dignified life: the kindergarten for children, the craft professional training school for young people and adults , the theatre, the Giuseppe Visconti Institution where the managers of Carlo Erba, one of the most advanced pharmaceutical companies of the time, had to hold free lessons in hygiene and cutting-edge agricultural techniques. Many charitable activities supported by the Duke also started from here, such as the expeditions that were supposed to help eradicate malaria.<\/em><\/p>\n
The craftsmanship…<\/h4>\n
The craftsmanship produced here, especially that of wood and wrought iron, has been very popular and appreciated for a long time, so much so that we still talk about the Grazzano style. However, Duke Giuseppe had also intuited that Grazzano Visconti would have been a great tourist attraction, as well as an artisanal one: for this reason, already in his time he had a hotel built and facilities dedicated to catering for travellers. He also created everything that would help the inhabitants and visitors immerse themselves in a timeless atmosphere, such as the typical costumes that can still be admired on postcards and vintage photographs.<\/em> (grazzanovisconti.com)<\/p>\n

How was the Grazzano Visconti Castle Park born? How was it designed? What plants can we find there?<\/h3>\n
Before the 19th-century restructuring, the peasants lived in hovels and old stables around the castle. Today’s 120,000 m2 park did not exist.<\/p>\n
Giuseppe Visconti di Modrone designs its shape and distribution himself \u201c[\u2026] <\/strong>where different inspirations coexist harmoniously: the rational lines of the Italian garden and the avenues coexist with the romantic atmosphere of the wooded areas, the sinuous paths, the fountains and the marble statues that allow themselves to be covered by the caress of creepers such as ivy, moss and roses. <\/strong><\/p>\n
In the park of over 120,000 square meters, native essences of the Grazzano area live – such as English oaks, elms, black poplars, hazelnuts, field maples, cherry trees, hornbeams and ash trees – together with specimens of exotic origin such as cedars, American cypresses and various expanses of bamboo. The Duke’s choice of plants wanted to obtain an architectural effect that would make the garden attractive throughout the year: so here are many evergreens, such as cypresses, pines, holm oaks, yews and myrtle and box shrubs. Among the flowers, roses dominate, with bright colors and a delicate scent.<\/p>\n
Some centuries-old specimens stand out<\/strong>, including an over 150-year-old plane tree, the oldest plant in the park, an over 80-year-old lime tree and a splendid group of Lebanese cedars.
In the park, there are so many corners where the inhabitants of the castle could walk, play, rest and enjoy the shadows of the trees and the cool waters of the fountains, places and glimpses that still offer themselves to the eyes of visitors today. Behind the castle, the large Belvedere avenue, the Bacchus stop, the labyrinth and the little house that Duke Giuseppe had built for the games of his two youngest daughters, Uberta and Ida Pace known as Nane, are particularly suggestive.\u201d (grazzanovisconti.com)<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

In the park there is also the statue of Aloisia, a sad damsel killed for love, today the ghost of the castle who punishes those who ignore her, rewards those who bring her gifts and obviously sides with loves with a happy ending.<\/p>\n
At night – so says the story that has been handed down – she takes refuge within the walls of the castle and behaves in a very abusive way, pulling at the feet and slapping the guests, unless they give her gifts, hanging from the statue, placed in a some rooms, necklaces and jewels, which satisfy the vanity of the female spectrum<\/strong>. The 2022 Verde Grazzano edition was held from 23 to 25 September under a bright sun.<\/p>\n
The arrangement of the gazebos winds along some paths in the Grazzano Visconti park so that they can be covered in a single tour. Many beautiful plants, garden accessories, furniture and sculptures and, at the end of the tour, the necessary catering.<\/p>\n

Il borgo nasce sempre per volere e per mano di Giuseppe Visconti di Modrone affiancato dall\u2019Arch. Campanini su un disegno a ferro di cavallo intorno al castello. Il desiderio del Duca era tradurre in realt\u00e0 i concetti di Arts & Crafts vigenti all\u2019epoca e derivanti dall\u2019Inghilterra e dai suoi pari in tutta Europa: celebrare le arti ed i mestieri permettendone il libero sviluppo nel suo paese.<\/p>\r\n
L'insegnamento...<\/h4>\r\n
\u201c[\u2026] Per questo, oltre alle abitazioni, nel borgo di Grazzano Visconti si trovano molti edifici dedicati a insegnare agli abitanti tutti gli strumenti utili a vivere una vita serena e dignitosa: l\u2019asilo per i bambini, la scuola di formazione professionale artigianale per giovani e adulti, il teatro, l\u2019Istituzione Giuseppe Visconti dove i dirigenti della Carlo Erba, una delle pi\u00f9 avanzate case farmaceutiche dell\u2019epoca, dovevano tenere lezioni gratuite di igiene e di tecniche agricole all\u2019avanguardia. Da qui sono partite anche molte attivit\u00e0 benefiche sostenute dal Duca, come le spedizioni che dovevano aiutare a debellare la malaria.<\/em><\/p>\r\n
L'artigianato...<\/h4>\r\n
L\u2019artigianato prodotto qui, soprattutto quello del legno e del ferro battuto, \u00e8 stato per molto tempo molto in voga e apprezzato, tanto che si parla ancora di stile Grazzano. Il Duca Giuseppe per\u00f2 aveva anche intuito che Grazzano Visconti sarebbe stata una grande attrazione turistica, oltre che artigianale: per questo gi\u00e0 alla sua epoca fece costruire un hotel e strutture dedicate alla ristorazione dei viaggiatori. Cre\u00f2 inoltre tutto quello che avrebbe aiutato gli abitanti e i visitatori a calarsi in un\u2019atmosfera fuori dal tempo, come i costumi tipici che ancora si possono ammirare sulle cartoline e sulle fotografie d\u2019epoca.\u201d<\/em> (grazzanovisconti.com)<\/p>\r\n

Come nasce il Parco del Castello Grazzano Visconti? Com'\u00e8 stato progettato? Quali piante possiamo trovarci?<\/h3>\r\n
Prima della ristrutturazione ottocentesca, intorno al castello vivevano i contadini in catapecchie e vecchie stalle. Non esisteva l\u2019odierno parco di 120.000 mq.<\/p>\r\n
Giuseppe Visconti di Modrone ne disegna egli stesso forma e distribuzione \u201c[\u2026] <\/strong>dove ispirazioni diverse convivono armoniosamente: le linee razionali del giardino all\u2019italiana e dei viali coesistono con l\u2019atmosfera romantica delle zone a bosco, dei vialetti sinuosi, delle fontane e delle statue in marmo che si lasciano coprire dalla carezza di rampicanti come edera, muschio e rose. <\/strong><\/p>\r\n
Nel parco di oltre 120.000 mq vivono essenze autoctone della zona di Grazzano \u2013 come farnie, olmi, pioppi neri, noccioli, aceri campestri, ciliegi, carpini e frassini \u2013 insieme a esemplari di origine esotica come cedri, cipressi d\u2019America e diverse distese di bamb\u00f9. La scelta delle piante da parte del Duca voleva ottenere un effetto architettonico che rendesse il giardino attraente durante tutto l\u2019anno: ecco allora tanti sempreverdi, come cipressi, pini, lecci, tassi e arbusti di mirto e bosso. Tra i fiori dominano le rose, dai colori accesi e dal profumo delicato.<\/p>\r\n
Spiccano alcuni esemplari ultrasecolari,<\/strong> tra i quali un platano di oltre 150 anni, la pianta pi\u00f9 vecchia del parco, un tiglio di oltre 80 anni e uno splendido gruppo di cedri del Libano.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0
Nel parco, sono davvero tanti gli angoli dove gli abitanti del castello potevano passeggiare, giocare, risposarsi e godere delle ombre degli alberi e delle fresche acque delle fontane, luoghi e scorci che ancora oggi si offrono agli occhi dei visitatori. Chi \u00e8 Aloisia?<\/h3>\r\nNel parco si trova anche la statua di Aloisia, triste donzella uccisa per amore oggi fantasma del castello che punisce chi la ignora, premia chi le porta doni e ovviamente parteggia per gli amori a lieto fine.\r\n\r\nDi notte - cos\u00ec dice la storia che viene tramandata - si rifugia tra le mura del castello e si comporta in maniera assai manesca, tirando i piedi e schiaffeggiando gli ospiti, a meno che questi le facciano dei doni, appendendo alla statua, posta in una delle stanze, collane e monili, che ne appaghino la vanit\u00e0 di spettro femminile<\/strong>. L\u2019edizione Verde Grazzano del 2022 si \u00e8 tenuta dal 23 al 25 settembre sotto un sole splendente.<\/p>\r\n
La disposizione dei gazebo si snoda lungo alcuni percorsi del parco Grazzano Visconti in modo da poterli percorrere con un unico giro. Molte piante meravigliose, accessori, arredo e sculture da giardino e, alla fine del giro, la necessaria ristorazione.<\/p>\r\n
