From 21 to 23 October, the 30th FAI Exhibition-Market dedicated to the \u201cpossible garden\u201d was held at Castello di Masino, with over 100 nurserymen selected by the Accademia Piemontese. Highlights included drought-resistant plants, meetings on sustainability and guided tours of the park and castle. Attractions included the labyrinth, the rose garden and suggestive walks among flowerbeds, palm trees and cypresses.<\/h5>\n

When were the three days of the FAI held at Castello di Masino?<\/h2>\n

The 30th Exhibition-market at the castle of Masino and in its park took place this year between 21 and 23 October.<\/p>\n

The theme, as we often encountered this year in the various demonstrations, fairs and events on gardens that took place, focused on “The possible garden: adaptation, creativity and sustainability”.<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/h2>\n

How many nurserymen were present at the three days for the garden at Castello di Masino?<\/h2>\n

The Piedmontese Garden Academy<\/strong> selected more than 100 nurserymen who proposed the most sought-after varieties for beauty, simplicity and adaptability to the current climate situation to the participants of the exhibition-market.<\/p>\n

\u201c[\u2026] Among the botanical novelties on display<\/strong>: numerous varieties of achillea<\/strong>, agastache<\/strong>, echinacea<\/strong>, eryngium<\/strong> e sedum<\/strong>, flowering plants resistant to aridity and able to cope with increasingly rising temperatures, and the unusual Dalea purpurea<\/strong>, Dierama pulcherrimum<\/strong>, Euphorbia dendroides<\/strong>, Euphorbia donii \u2018Amjillasa\u2019<\/strong>, Euphorbia griffitii \u2018Fern Cottage\u2019.<\/strong> <\/p>\n

Cistus: excellent essences for the arid climate:<\/h3>\n

Furthermore, among the new plants for arid soils there is an interesting collection of cists, such as the rare and original ones Cistus halimifolius<\/strong> (Yellow Cist) and Cistus ladanifer<\/strong>, medicinal and aromatic.  […] of particular interest for the autumn vegetation and flowering will be the majestic Eupatorium capillipes ‘Elegant plume’<\/strong>  and the Phellodendron amurense<\/strong>, rutacea from Asia, rustic deciduous tree, with corky bark, cultivated for its beautiful shape and aromatic foliage. 3 days of the FAI for the Garden at the Masino Castle: the route<\/h2>\n

The route of the exhibition-market was concentrated in the lower part of the Masino park, near the entrances, winding along the existing paths and forming a ring.<\/p>\n

Having made an initial tour of the over 100 exhibiting nurserymen and decided, in principle, which plants to purchase (then there were many more), we continued to visit the Masino castle. The village perched between the park and the castle is fascinating, as if to protect the latter or to protect the village from the rest of the world.<\/p>\n

The park of the Masino castle<\/h3>\n

The park of the Masino castle has the classic sixteenth-century imprint where the parts of the park closest to the castle are the most decorated. It so happens that we come across a stone wall about a couple of meters high that divides the area of \u200b\u200bthe English park (the furthest from the castle) from the area enriched by annual blooms, greenery, the small temple, the labyrinth, the strawberry tree grove – Arbutus unedo (what a feast!!) which we overcome by climbing a stone staircase.<\/p>\n

The walk in the green park of Masino<\/h3>\n

The walk in this part of the park makes one feel like a lady in costume. It makes you want to walk slowly, chatting slowly. It seems to hear the clothes rustling on the ground\u2026<\/p>\n

Walking along the avenues of cypresses, we see meadows with box hedges in shape that welcome flowerbeds of perennial flowering herbs. We also walk through a palm grove which, with its bare and slender trunks, looks like a stone colonnade at the end of which we can see the small temple.<\/p>\n

The rose garden is at the rear base of the castle, enclosed by an iron gate. A romantic pool of water stands at the center.<\/p>\n

The labyrinth of Masino Castle<\/h3>\n

Passing instead in front of the castle, you reach a long avenue at the end of which is the famous labyrinth. We obviously circled around and got lost for half an hour then cheated and walked out.<\/p>\n

I must say that despite the sun, the delightful place, the beloved company and a full belly – we had lunch at the FAI bar next to the castle – we children of the 80s could not miss the call of “The Shining<\/strong>“.<\/p>\n

The wonderful marble floor was obviously laid not with tiles, but with grit created on the floor itself, making it as beautiful today as it was in 1500 when it was laid.<\/p>\n

There was no shortage of in-depth meetings focused on the recomposition of the relationship between man and nature. The cultivation of the vegetable garden and the tricks that can be put in place to counter the negative effects of the new climatic situation and also the awareness of people on the role that small animals also play in our private gardens and terraces in relation to the surrounding area.<\/p>\n

In the end, tired but happy, we enjoyed the roasted chestnuts sitting on a sheaf of straw with the gentle light of the sunset warming our backs and we don’t need to ask ourselves why we came: the satisfaction we feel is enough… what more could you ask for!<\/p>\n

Fatto un primo giro tra gli oltre 100 vivaisti espositori e deciso, di massima, quali piante acquistare (poi sono state molte di pi\u00f9) abbiamo proseguito per la visita del castello di Masino. Affascinante il borgo arroccato tra il parco ed il castello, quasi a proteggere quest\u2019ultimo o a proteggere il borgo dal resto del mondo.<\/p>\r\n

Il parco del castello di Masino<\/h3>\r\n

Il parco del castello di Masino ha la classica impronta cinquecentesca dove le parti del parco pi\u00f9 vicine al castello sono quelle pi\u00f9 decorate. Accade cos\u00ec che incontriamo un muro di pietra alto circa un paio di metri che divide la zona del parco all\u2019inglese (la pi\u00f9 distante dal castello) da quella arricchita da fioriture annuali, da accadimenti verdi, il tempietto, il labirinto il boschetto di corbezzoli - Arbutus unedo (che scorpacciata!!) che superiamo salendo una scala in pietra.<\/p>\r\n

La passeggiata nel verde parco di Masino<\/h3>\r\n

La passeggiata in questa parte di parco fa sentire come una dama in costume. Viene voglia di passeggiare lentamente, chiacchierando piano. Sembra di sentire i vestiti che frusciano sul terreno\u2026<\/p>\r\n

Percorrendo i viali di cipressi, vediamo prati con siepi di bosso in forma che accolgono aiuole di erbe perenni in fiore. Camminiamo anche attraverso un boschetto di palme che, con i tronchi spogli ed esili ci sembra un colonnato di pietra in fondo al quale si scorge il tempietto.<\/p>\r\n

Il roseto \u00e8 alla base retrostante del castello, recintato da una cancellata in ferro. Una romantica vasca d\u2019acqua ne sta al centro.<\/p>\r\n

Il labirinto del Castello di Masino<\/h3>\r\n

Passando invece in fronte al castello si raggiunge un lungo viale al cui termine c\u2019\u00e8 il famoso labirinto. Abbiamo ovviamente girato in tondo e ci siamo persi per una mezz\u2019ora poi abbiamo barato e siamo usciti.<\/p>\r\n

Devo dire che nonostante il sole, il luogo delizioso, la compagnia amata e la pancia piena \u2013 abbiamo pranzato al bar del FAI accanto al castello \u2013 a noi bambini degli anni \u201980 il richiamo di \u201cShining<\/strong>\u201d non \u00e8 potuto mancare.<\/p>\r\n

La visita guidata all'interno del Castello di Masino<\/h3>\r\n

La visita al castello era guidata e chi ti accompagna ama il giro ed il castello quindi lo racconta con amore.<\/p>\r\n

Le foto che seguono sono solo alcune delle stanze magnifiche attraversate e vi lascio il desiderio di andarlo a visitare facendovi notare solo una cosa che vorrei anche a casa mia.<\/p>\r\n

Pregiati dettagli del castello di Masino: I pavimenti di marmo<\/h3>\r\n

Il meraviglioso pavimento in marmo posato ovviamente non a piastrelle, ma in graniglia creata sul pavimento stesso, per cui tanto bello oggi quanto nel 1500 quando \u00e8 stato posato.<\/p>\r\n

Non sono mancati gli incontri di approfondimento focalizzati sul ricomporsi del rapporto uomo natura. La coltivazione dell\u2019orto e le furbizie che si possono mettere in campo per contrastare gli effetti negativi della nuova situazione climatica ed anche la sensibilizzazione delle persone sul ruolo che i piccoli animali svolgono anche nei nostri giardini e terrazzi privati in rapporto con il territorio circostante.<\/p>\r\n
