It grows up to 20 meters and requires annual pruning. It loves the sun, acidic and deep soil. Toxic in seeds, it is ideal for pergolas and gardens. In hot climates it can live, but there is a risk that it will be sick in summer due to high temperatures and dry wind. <strong>It tolerates both summer heat and winter frost down to -15\u00b0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Evergreen or deciduous:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>deciduous<\/p>\n<p><strong>Toxicity: <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The fruits are legumes and contain poisonous seeds.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>PLANT RECOGNITION of Wisteria sinensis<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Height: <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>They can grow up to 20 m in height<\/p>\n<p><strong>Width (extension): <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>10m horizontally<\/p>\n<p><strong>Habit:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>climber ground cover shrubby plant (it does not cling to the supports but runs along them tending to get up): its branches naturally rotate counterclockwise around the supports.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Leaf:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>light green, yellow in autumn, oval, lanceolate with sharp apex, 7 to 13 cm long, imparipinnate, with 9 to 19 leaflets.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Flower:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The hermaphroditic flowers with papilionaceous corolla of blue-lilac or mauve color are gathered in pendulous racemes from 20 to 30 cm long, purple, pink or white (depending on the acidity of the soil). No to calcareous soils<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Soil acidity:<\/strong><\/h4>\n<h4>it prefers acidic soils, with a pH between 4 and 6. Ferric chlorosis is common in calcareous soils, which can be corrected by adding iron sulphate to the soil, irrigating with acidic water and fertilizing with specific fertilizer for acidic plants.<\/h4>\n<p><strong>Italian climatic area:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>widespread and cultivated plant in the gardens of all temperate regions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Need for water:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>moderate. Water the young plants in case of prolonged drought.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Diseases: <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>aphids and mites, chlorosis.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Pruning:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>every year after flowering it prunes itself. In August we choose the branches that we want to grow and lengthen the plant and we eliminate the rest with the &#8220;spur&#8221; technique, i.e. cutting the 1-year shoots, leaving only 3 buds that will give flowers the following year<\/p>\n<p><strong>Propagation:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>the seeds of the sinensis germinate easily. The seeds of hybrids, on the other hand, are not always. It also propagates by layering or by detachment of a sucker.<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-size: 100%;\"><strong>PARTICULARITY <\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><strong>The term Wisteria of the genus was dedicated to Dr. Caspar Wistar, a friend of the author of the genus Thomas Nuttel. The sinensis species refers to Chinese origin.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In the language of flowers it indicates friendship and can live 100 years.<\/p>\n<p>The plant is very vigorous and for this reason it tends to incorporate the structures on which it is made to climb. The support structure must therefore be resistant or the plant must be kept under control. An alternative method is to have it climb a dead plant that will support it until the wisteria can support itself.<\/p>\n<p>Good plant for bonsai but with a very difficult level of development.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Annotations<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p><em>Wisteria<\/em> grow by wrapping around any support either clockwise (like <em>W. floribunda<\/em>) or counterclockwise (<em>W. sinensis<\/em>)<\/p>\n<p>As an ornamental plant for covering walls, pergolas, fences or climbing trees, in gardens and on terraces thanks to its rapid development and exuberant flowering. Annaffiare le giovani piante in caso di prolungata siccit\u00e0.<\/p>\r\n<p><strong>Malattie: <\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p>afidi e acari, clorosi.<\/p>\r\n<p><strong>Potatura:<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p>ogni anno dopo la fioritura si pota da sola. Ad agosto scegliamo i rami che vogliamo crescano e allunghino la pianta e eliminiamo il resto con la tecnica \u201ca sperone\u201d tagliando cio\u00e8 le cacciate di 1 anno, lasciando solo 3 boccioli che daranno i fiori l\u2019anno successivo<\/p>\r\n<p><strong>Propagazione:<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p>i semi della sinensis germogliano con facilit\u00e0. I semi degli ibridi invece non sempre. Si propaga anche per margotta o per distacco di un succhione.<\/p>\r\n<h3><span style=\"font-size: 100%;\"><strong>PARTICOLARIT\u00c0\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\r\n<p><strong>Il termine Wisteria del genere \u00e8 stato dedicato al Dr. Caspar Wistar, amico dell\u2019autore del genere Thomas Nuttel. La specie sinensis si riferisce all\u2019origine cinese.<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p>Nel\u00a0linguaggio dei fiori\u00a0indica\u00a0amicizia e pu\u00f2 vivere 100 anni.<\/p>\r\n<p>La pianta \u00e8 molto vigorosa e per questo tende ad inglobare le strutture su cui viene fatta rampicare. La struttura di sostegno quindi deve essere resistente o la pianta deve essere tenuta sotto controllo. Un metodo alternativo \u00e8 farla arrampicare su una pianta morta che far\u00e0 da supporto finch\u00e9 la wisteria non arriver\u00e0 a sostenersi da sola.<\/p>\r\n<p>Pianta buona per i bonsai ma di livello di sviluppo molto difficile.<\/p>\r\n<h4><strong>Annotazioni<\/strong><\/h4>\r\n<p>Le\u00a0<em>Wisteria<\/em>\u00a0crescono avvolgendosi attorno a qualunque supporto sia in\u00a0senso orario\u00a0(come\u00a0<em>W. floribunda<\/em>) sia in\u00a0senso antiorario\u00a0(<em>W. sinensis<\/em>)<\/p>\r\n<p>Come\u00a0pianta ornamentale\u00a0per ricoprire muri, pergolati, recinzioni o arrampicarsi ad alberi, nei giardini e sulle terrazze grazie al rapido sviluppo ed alla fioritura esuberante.
