Le foglie basali, grandi, sono picciolate e possono raggiungere i 20 \u2013 40\u00a0cm di lunghezza. Quelle dello scapo sono pi\u00f9 piccole e meno divise, espanse alla base in due orecchiette.<\/p>\r\n il fiore si sviluppa il secondo anno. I fiori\u00a0tubulosi\u00a0sono formati da grandi capolini globosi, terminali, di colore porpora, che crescono su lunghi peduncoli, la base su cui poggia il fiore \u00e8 provvista di spine.<\/strong><\/p>\r\n piena primavera<\/p>\r\n acheni oblunghi, pi\u00f9 stretti alla base e compressi lateralmente, provvisti di un\u00a0pappo\u00a0uniseriato e setoloso all'apice<\/p>\r\n Robusto, striato e ramificato<\/p>\r\n Nel Medioevo il cardo mariano venne citato come epatoprotettore e colagogo.<\/p>\r\n Alla fine del secolo scorso i semi venivano utilizzati per le sindromi emorragiche e nell'ipotensione arteriosa.<\/p>\r\n leggero di carciofo<\/p>\r\n bassa<\/p>\r\n pieno sole<\/p>\r\n qualsiasi<\/p>\r\n varie<\/p>\r\n Tutta Italia: dal livello del mare fino alla zona submontana. Pi\u00f9 rara al nord, diventa pi\u00f9 frequente passando al centro, al sud e nelle isole fino a diventare invadente.<\/p>\r\n basta l\u2019acqua piovana se non ci sono periodi di prolungata siccit\u00e0.<\/p>\r\n I semi vengono raccolti per scuotimento dei capolini (imitando l'azione del vento) e vengono posti direttamente nel terreno<\/p>\r\n se coltivata eliminare solo le parti danneggiate o morte<\/p>\r\n non individuate<\/p>\r\n Un'antica tradizione\u00a0cristiana, vuole che il nome \"mariano<\/em>\" derivi da piccole striature bianche sulle foglie della pianta, che dovrebbero rappresentare il latte di\u00a0Maria Vergine, perso durante l'allattamento presso un riparo in una vegetazione di cardi, nel periodo di fuga in\u00a0Egitto\u00a0con\u00a0Giuseppe\u00a0e\u00a0Ges\u00f9\u00a0bambino.<\/p>\r\n I frutti del Cardo Mariano sono molto graditi dagli uccellini, in particolare dai cardellini.
