The leaves are fleshy and generally light green but in winter they often have red margins.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Flower: <\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>small in size, they can be solitary or gathered in cluster, panicle or corymb inflorescences. They have a star or bell shape. In fact, they contain substances that give different properties: healing, astringent, emollient, painkiller.<\/p>\n<p>The fresh leaves are used externally as: natural anti-inflammatories, for example to soothe sores or ulcers of the skin or oral mucosa, healing, soothing in case of burns, erythema (including sunburn), cysts, mastitis. The rustic species are grown outdoors throughout Italy, with the exception of the alpine species which are not suitable for hot climates, while the semi-rustic ones must be sheltered in winter, even if they tolerate temperatures below zero.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Need for water:<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>in summer it should be watered regularly, but waiting until the soil is completely dry, while between autumn and spring it is best to water only if the leaves lose their turgidity<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Propagation:<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Seed, cutting: should be carried out between May and June. Proceed by cutting some apical parts of the stem approximately 5 cm long with sharp and disinfected shears. After drying them for a couple of days in the open air, they are buried in specific soil.<\/p>\n<p>Division by tufts: one or more parts with their roots must be detached from the mother stock, and then planted immediately. The foliage is decorative, with a great variety of shapes and shades of color, and the flowers, usually yellow and summery, but there are exceptions. To learn more about some species, consult the nurseries suggested below by Mondo del Giardino.<\/p>\n<p>In the garden it is used as a ground cover plant or to color a rock garden: if it finds the right conditions, the plant tends to grow spontaneously even in arid environments.<\/p>\n<p>Sedums are used in green roofs due to their great resistance, given by their particular photosynthetic strategy (CAM) which allows them to survive even with very little rainfall.<\/p>\n<p><strong>In the kitchen:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>some species are edible such as:<\/p>\n<p>Sedum tectractinum Shanghai: the Chinese eat the young leaves raw before the flowering period, in salads with salted goose eggs, or cooked or added to soups.<\/p>\n<p>Sedum rupestre: the leaves are used after having removed the stems, usually raw added to salads to make them tastier, or with boiled potato salad or other dishes with raw foods. It can also be used in vegetable soups.<\/p>\n<p>Sedum album ssp. Album: the leaves are consumed either raw, added to salads to which they give a sour flavour, or cooked in omelettes or as a side vegetable, alone or mixed with other herbs. Hanno forma a stella o a campanula. l colori variano dal bianco-crema al giallo intenso, dal rosa al rosso-porpora, al violetto.<\/p>\r\n<h4><strong>Fioritura:<\/strong><\/h4>\r\n<p>Maggio - Settembre<\/p>\r\n<h4><strong>Frutto:<\/strong><\/h4>\r\n<p>insignificante<\/p>\r\n<h4><strong>Fusto:<\/strong><\/h4>\r\n<p>sia eretto che pendente, quasi sempre a cespi<\/p>\r\n<h4><strong>Propriet\u00e0:<\/strong><\/h4>\r\n<p>Le sue specie sono tutte molto apprezzate in erboristeria e nell\u2019ambito della medicina naturale. Contengono infatti sostanze che conferiscono diverse propriet\u00e0: cicatrizzanti, astringenti, emollienti, antidolorifiche.<\/p>\r\n<p>Le foglie fresche vengono usate esternamente come: antinfiammatori naturali, ad esempio per placare piaghe o ulcere della pelle o della mucosa orale, cicatrizzanti, lenitivo in caso ustioni, eritemi (anche solari), cisti, mastiti. Inoltre, la sua applicazione a livello topico favorirebbe la fuoriuscita di corpi estranei incastrati sotto la cute, come schegge di ferro o legno.<\/p>\r\n<h4><strong>Profumo:<\/strong><\/h4>\r\n<p>leggero<\/p>\r\n<h3><strong>NECESSIT\u00c0<\/strong><\/h3>\r\n<h4><strong>Manutenzione:<\/strong><\/h4>\r\n<p>facile. Sono considerate piante \"rustiche\" e \"semirustiche\" perch\u00e9 sopportano anche le basse temperature e a volte anche il gelo.<\/p>\r\n<h4><strong>Esposizione alla luce:<\/strong><\/h4>\r\n<p>mezzombra. Le specie rustiche sono coltivate all'aperto in tutta l'Italia, fatta eccezione per le specie alpine che non sono adatte ai climi caldi, mentre quelle semi-rustiche andranno messe al riparo in inverno, anche se sopportano temperature al di sotto dello zero.<\/p>\r\n<h4><strong>Bisogno di acqua:<\/strong><\/h4>\r\n<p>in estate va annaffiato regolarmente, aspettando per\u00f2 che il terriccio sia asciutto del tutto, mentre tra autunno e primavera \u00e8 bene irrigare solo se le foglie perdono turgore<\/p>\r\n<h4><strong>Propagazione:<\/strong><\/h4>\r\n<p>Seme, talea: va effettuata tra maggio e giugno. Si procede tagliando con cesoie affilate e disinfettate alcune parti apicali di fusto lunghe 5 cm circa. Dopo averle fatte seccare un paio di giorni all\u2019aria aperta, si interrano in terriccio specifico.<\/p>\r\n<p>Divisione per cespi: bisogna staccare dal ceppo madre una o pi\u00f9 parti con le proprie radici, e poi metterle subito a dimora.
