The name recalls the hardness of its wood. In winter it produces small yellow flowers before the leaves appear. The red fruits, similar to cherries, ripen in late summer and are edible. Cornelian cherry berries are also a secret weapon against wrinkles and skin blemishes. The trunk is twisted and knotty. Resistant to cold, it adapts to different types of soil and grows well in full sun or partial shade. La sua funzione astringente e purificante ti permette di utilizzarla come un vero e proprio rimedio naturale di bellezza. Il decotto di corteccia di corniolo pu\u00f2 essere usato come antirughe naturale. Il succo di bacche, unito a miele, limone e zucchero pu\u00f2 essere usato come scrub. L\u2019Abate Giordano Forzat\u00e8 (secoli XII e XIII) all\u2019atto della fondazione del convento di San Benedetto, ne tracci\u00f2 i confini con un bastone di legno di corniolo che poi abbandon\u00f2 ben piantato nel terreno. Entro breve dal bastone si svilupp\u00f2 un albero.<\/p>\r\n<p>Il cavallo di Troia venne realizzato dai Greci col legno dei cornioli di un bosco sacro ad Apollo situato sul monte Ida.<\/p>\r\n<p>Il nodo gordiano, che secondo il mito legava il carro di Gordio a un palo nella citt\u00e0 di Gordio, era fatto di corteccia di corniolo.<\/p>\r\n<p>Le Capanne del Palatino, rinvenute nel 1948 nel Foro Romano a Roma, corrisponderebbero al santuario della Casa Romuli, nei suoi pressi cresceva il sacro Corniolo, nato dopo che Romolo aveva lanciato un'asta dall'Aventino per provare la sua prestanza. La punta si era conficcata nel terreno in profondit\u00e0, proprio in prossimit\u00e0 delle \"future\" capanne, e nessuno di quelli che tent\u00f2 di estrarla vi riusc\u00ec. La terra era cos\u00ec fertile dove si era conficcata, che produsse germogli e poi una grande pianta.
