Why visit the Pallanca Exotic Garden
The Pallanca exotic garden is a private botanical garden. For its collection of large-sized cacti and succulents and for the assortment of varieties, it is considered, of its kind, the most important exotic park in Italy and among the most complete and characteristic in the world.
For these reasons the Garden is included, by the Ministry of Cultural and Artistic Heritage, among the national sites of artistic and landscape interest.
A little history of the Pallanca exotic garden
In summary, four generations have followed the construction, cultivation and conservation of this green heritage.
In 1989 the Pallanca family decided to open to the public the visit of a collection which until then had been reserved for scholars and authorities from all over the world so that ordinary people could also enjoy this beauty.
From 1910 to today the Pallanca collection has grown and expanded its spaces following a “thorny” passion that has been handed down from father to son.
Today the garden is home to a non-profit botanical association which aims to maintain and enrich the collection in order to guarantee a unique visiting experience.
The awards of the Pallanca exotic garden
The collection of cacti and succulent plants of the Pallanca Exotic Garden has received the greatest national and international honors over the years.
He therefore obtained certificates of excellence and merit from the Presidency of the Council of Ministers and from the crowns of the kingdoms of Great Britain, Belgium and Holland.
Some orographic and compositional information
The collection of cacti and exotic plants of the Pallanca Exotic Garden extends on a sandstone rock slope, the extreme southern slope of the ancient Monte Nero volcano.
Terraces with typical Ligurian dry stone walls were created along the route.
The terraces and flowerbeds are bordered by a staircase, partly chiseled into the rock and partly maintained by an ancient mule track which increases the particularity and charm of this place.
There are many species, around 3000, that make up the collection. In every corner, therefore, it will be possible to discover something curious, particular and botanically rare.
The signs
Along the route you will notice numbered signs inserted to indicate interesting and curious information regarding the thematic areas of a garden with a unique setting.
Due to the particular shape of the garden and its singular vertical development overlooking the sea, we recommend a careful visit to discover the unexpected.
