Types of swimming pools for the garden: hydromassage in the garden
We began this journey of learning about the world of swimming pools with the article “The pool in the garden“. Then we focused on biolakes: a natural version of a swimming pool in the article “The biolake in the garden“. Now we will focus on the third and last option (but not the least fascinating) which is the outdoor mini-pool or hot tub.
How was the hot tub born?
The concept of hydromassage was invented by Mr. Candido Jacuzzi way back in 1943 by building a pump capable of conveying a jet of water with the force necessary for muscle massage for his son Kenneth. In fact, his son, suffering from severe rheumatoid arthritis, found relief in hydrotherapy sessions in hospital, which is why Candido’s wife asked him to build one for his home.
At a certain point, the technology necessary to build the outdoor hydromassage tub which is called a mini-pool develops from the indoor tub.
How many types of hot tubs are there? What are the best outdoor hot tubs?
Today there are inflatable, fixed or in-ground mini-pools available on the market and all models will require chemicals to treat the water.
So, how to choose the best hydromassage model? Where to place the mini-pool? How does tub maintenance work?
Inflatables are very convenient and have the characteristic of being able to be removed in the seasons in which they are not in use. Differently from the other two, it does not have large installation costs and is not connected to the water system with the pros and cons that this generates. For example, as there are no recycling pumps, it will need to be emptied once a month.
The underground mini-pool is rarely chosen because the aesthetic differences between the underground one and the external one are not significant and therefore it is preferable not to have the problem of excavation.
The most installed are the fixed ones which are portable monobloc structures which, unlike indoor hydromassage tubs, do not need to be emptied. In fact, they are equipped with filtration and disinfection systems that ensure constant water purification. It is therefore never necessary to change it.
From the choice of the tub to the place where to place it, up to the installation of the new outdoor hydromassage pool
What are the secrets to moving from dream to reality without shocks?
Clearly the first thing is choosing the location of the mini-pool in the garden.
A serious company will carry out the inspection and you can then consult with them to define the best location.
Once this has been done, it will be important to arrange a dedicated electrical line with your electrician and the plumbing system will also need to be brought.
Once you have decided and purchased the model, it must be delivered and assembled. A mini-pool weighs over 300 kg and requires many men to be able to move it. Therefore, if the point where you want to place the tub cannot be reached by the truck, you will have a further significant expense item to consider.
If you buy a fixed mini-pool you shouldn’t skimp on accessories. The covering is crucial: it keeps impurities present in the air, insects and leaves away and helps substantially to maintain the internal temperature. Furthermore, today the covers – despite being very high-performance – have been made easier to handle because they are thinner and lighter.
How do you choose the mini-pool for the garden? What are the best brands of outdoor hot tubs?
Today there are many companies producing mini-pools, starting from the Jacuzzi which still exists and is a reference for the sector, to Castiglione, Busco etc.
The Jacuzzi, for example, which has continued to improve its technology over the years, will always have an eye for research into the positioning and size of the vents. For example, the airpool hydromassage where the nozzles are not on the sides of the tub but on the bottom or the patented shiatsu which includes two parallel rows of 32 small nozzles directed along the neck, the effect of which is comparable to the pressure of a masseur’s hands.
Busco, on the other hand, with fifty years of experience in the sector, focuses on customization. For example, placing a mini-pool on a terrace in Piazza del Duomo in Milan where the buildings are more than a hundred years old requires that a certain weight is not exceeded. Customization concerns the shape and depth which varies for each project, while also providing standard structures.
How much does it cost to have a hydromassage in the garden? How much does an outdoor hydromassage mini-pool consume?
The first cost to consider is the extraordinary preparation of the electrical and plumbing systems.
The second important cost is the purchase of the mini-pool.
A turnkey Jacuzzi with cover, for 5/6 people of a medium model will be positioned above the four zeros.
The Busco of the same type will not exceed 4 zeros.
The biggest cost, after the purchase, is the heating of the water, but this also depends on the frequency of use. We’re talking about 300/400 Watts per day if you keep it on all the time. However, if you use it a couple of hours a day with a modern, well-insulated unit and a quality thermal cover, it will cost more than a common household appliance.
Finally, maintenance will include products for disinfection and the purchase of a screen, non-abrasive sponge, neutral soap, water tester, additives and filters even if it must be said that today there is water sterilization using ultraviolet radiation instead of chlorine . This made all the bodies of water accessible even to those who were sensitive to the product and significantly lowered maintenance costs.
The mondo del giardino advice
With swimming pools and mini-pools, the maintenance in terms of operations to be carried out even on a daily basis are the same and are quite demanding. If you don’t want to or can’t take care of them, choose the biolake.
